Project Inaayat : An Effort to Replace Plastic Bags and Generate Jobs for Women

In collaboration with Team Enactus, from Jai Hind College we are proud to launch Project Inaayat.
With this project we are trying to employ as well as empower women and replace the plastic bags in the market with cloth bags by creating these bags from rags.

After the success of Project Saffron, a group of students  started this initiative where the students collect surplus cloth from textile outlets and through donations. These collected clothes are then passed on to our tailoring batch students at the Govandi centre, where they convert them into beautifully designed hand bags.

The hand crafted bags are then taken into the market where the Team Enactus makes efforts to get them sold at the market rates. The funds generated are then pumped back into our projects and reinvested into the initiative.

In the month of May, 600 such bags were produced. To make this project sustainable, our tailoring students are also being taken to the actual market to learn how to sell these bags. We are extremely overjoyed with the success of the project and will share the final reports of the 2 month long summer initiative soon.

If you have a business or organisation that requires cloth bags, do get in touch with us we would be happy to collaborate with you.
