Daan Utsav 2018 celebrations in DBM

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”~Winston Churchill.

Dharma Bharathi Mission celebrated DAAN UTSAV The Joy of Giving Week from 2nd to 8th October.

Daan Utsav formerly known as the Joy of Giving Week reflects the essence of Indian culture of sharing, caring and giving. Every year since 2009 Daan Utsav starts on Gandhi Jayanti (2nd October) engaging people through “acts of giving” ~ money, time, resource and skills.

Dharma Bharathi Mission participated and supported this initiative with vigorous enthusiasm. We would like to share a few glimpses of the week’s celebrating.

DBM believes anything shared with love can bring great happiness it could be simple things like an old book, a box colour, a hot meal or sharing your time with an elderly person or sharing your knowledge.

This year Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) acknowledged the work of Dharma Bharathi Mission and provided us with a Kiosk to celebrate Joy of Giving Week at the Airport. This gave us an opportunity to make the passengers aware of the importance of Giving and Sharing as also about DBM and its activities.

2nd October: Our President Mr Paramjeet Singh spoke on Gandhian Principles in a Global Perspective of Truth, Non-Violence and Satyagraha in practical application addressing students and Teachers of Central Fisheries Institute on the occasion of 150th birthday of Mahatma Gandhi as well as the start of Daan Utsav.

3rd of October: DBM members & volunteers shared foodgrains with the children of our slum schools, very kindly donated by MS Suman Srivastava, a DBM friend.

4th of October: We encouraged individuals to donate old or new sarees and blankets to be distributed in cancer institute and tribal areas.

5th October: We focused on our key project: Education. Several students in India are unable to finish their Education because their family went through a financial problem. We urged our well-wishers and donors to help a girl child who can an independent earner in her future years. The donors also sponsored stationeries and school bags.

6th October: Daan Utsav was celebrated at M Power centre where less privileged students without any coaching class are working very hard to qualify for competitive exams.

7th October: We celebrated a fun and learning day for our staff and teachers where they could go for a day picnic.

October 8th: Medical checkup of 300 school children was organised.
9th October: Games and goodies were distributed to cancer affected children.

We are thankful to all the participants, volunteers, staff and donors for helping us organising this eventful week
