M Power Centre, Deonar Is run by TISS in collaboration with DBM. The centre aims to help the underprivileged children in their higher education.
The Deonar M- Power Library cum study center is imagined as a space for peer learning in a peaceful environment, it is a resource center of books and learning materials, with access to virtual resources and a space to build capacities needed to appear confidently in Competitive exams. Special classes on Maths, Science, Workshops on career guidance, personality development are added features of the study center.
The library houses reference books as well as text books for college and degree students and for students appearing for professional courses such as LAW, CA, MBA, and for those appearing for UPSC, MPSC, BANK and all state and national competitive exams. Books are available in Hindi, English and Marathi. Every three months new books are added as per requirement of the students. The library also has a section of fiction in various languages to encourage reading.
The Centre has met with a good response and has fulfilled the need of a quality place for the needy students in M Ward.
To meet the increasing demand for books, computers and laptops and other infrastructural needs such as Tables and Chairs, we had approached IFCI Ltd. (a Public Sector company) for help in early 2020 and it had very kindly accepted and sanctioned our request to help us in March 2020.
But then Pandemic struck and everything went into lockdown. However like a responsible corporate, as soon as partial opening happened, IFCI immediately asked us to go ahead and procure the much needed infrastructural things – Laptops, Books, Tables & Chairs, so that by the time the centre opens the centre is fully equipped to meet the increased and pent up demand of the students.
In the times when education for all and especially the poor has suffered badly, IFCI’s gesture is laudable and praiseworthy. We in NGO’s are always ready to work for the most vulnerable sections of the society and it is gestures like these that inspire and motivate us to do more and it reconfirms our faith in humanity.
